The term, “Low Self-Esteem” (LSE), is bandied about a great deal. What does it mean, and how do you know if you’ve got it?
You’ve got it if:
• Life happens to you
• You lack direction
• You can’t express your desires / needs
• People take advantage of you
• You are always giving and never getting
• You play a ‘Victim’ role
• You procrastinate
• You live with fear or anxiety
• You are indecisive
• You are depressed
• You are angry
• You are arrogant
• You are impatient
• You are aggressive
• You are lonely
• You are concerned about what others think of you
• You fear intimacy
• You are egotistical
• You are selfish
• You engage in self-destructive behaviour
▪ You are a high achiever
And so it goes….
Some of the above may come as a surprise. Most people think that high achievers, arrogant, angry, aggressive people have HIGH self-esteem. Not so.
Basically, there are only two emotions: LOVE and FEAR. If you’re operating in the latter, your self-esteem is low. High self-esteem comes from love (the absence of fear). It is often felt as a deep serenity – the ability just to be.
Please remember – you are a human being, not a human doing.
Question: Have you ever met a newborn baby with low self-esteem? Nope, neither have I. We are not born like it – WE LEARN IT!
